The message I took from them is that to isolate ourselves from the generosity or support of friends, colleagues or relatives is to impoverish our lives and to negate the great truth that to live a full life we need each other. the trilogy Vikings Dawn, The Road to Miklagard and Vikings Sunset Man with a Sword. I read these books before I was a teenager and they have stayed with me through the years. HENRY TREECE was born in the West Midlands in December 1911. He is forced to chase a marauding enemy right across the Atlantic. In 'Viking's Sunset' we meet Harald when he is a mature leader of his community with a wife and growing children. In 'The Road to Miklagard' Harald is a maturing warrior who heads for Ireland, but ends up in Byzantium. I have recently reread all three books of this trilogy by Henry Treece and I’ve noticed how Harald repeatedly needed help to survive to manhood.

    I identified with this lad and learned about his world and mine as he struggled to survive in a violent time. ‘Viking’s Dawn’ tells the story of Harald Sigurdson, a boy becoming a man during an adventure from Norway to Scotland and Ireland near the start of the Viking era.
